Peaceful Apartment Complex

6 management rating Reviewed by on

Highland Square is a quiet well kept apartment complex that is walking distance from Emory Village and the university. There is a nice gym, swimming pool, and dog park. It has a nice mix of graduate students and working professionals. The grounds are pretty and the community is safely gated. Very relaxing.

Highland Square

I have been living here for the past three years and the space is very cozy.

Pros: Maintenance is very efficient. Pool, gym, and parking are included in rent without additional fees. It is also relatively close to Emory campus (25 min walk to school of medicine). 5 min drive from Kroger.

Cons: there is nothing at walking distance in the neighborhood. Prices have been rising significantly in the past two years. There are a lot of small fees they keep on adding.

Highland Square Apartments

Very spacious, quiet apartments with a lot of Emory-affiliated residents - likely more graduate than undergraduate students. The location is great because you're very close to campus but also closer to midtown / west midtown / beltline areas than if you lived on the Decatur side of memory.

Had some trouble with cockroaches in the summer but that's expected in the heat and the office was helpful in resolving that issue.

Solid Apt for Students

Great location (5-10 min from Emory depending on traffic), cheap rent for a 2br. Mild pest issues, but it's Georgia. Trails nearby and grocery stores within walking distance.

Highland lives up to its name vis a vis cost and convenience

10 management rating Reviewed by on

This facility is smaller than most other apartment complexes, which means management and maintenance are quick to respond to concerns or issues. But fewer units means higher rent compared to some--but not all--larger complexes.
The facilities and grounds are well-maintained. Nice pool and pool deck area; fitness center is adequate and usually never too crowded; and the parcel locker system generally functions well. Residents are a mix ranging from undergrads, professional students, and working professionals. Generally the complex is quiet and weekends sometimes show signs of life and celebration but the levels never become obnoxious or disturbing.
For Emory students, the complex is conveniently located and directly across from a residential neighborhood with side streets leading to a campus entrance away from the main roads of Decatur and Clairmont; thus even during peak traffic hours campus is never more than a five minute drive. Be warned that an Emory shuttle passes by the complex but does not stop here. If you resort to walking to campus, prepare for 25+ minutes.

Quiet, close to school

It is close to school and quiet, the problem is that some amenities or part of the apartment can have issues because they are old (hvac controller, dishwasher without lights, fridge don’t turn of internal light), it is nothing to critical.

Great Management

Management is amazing and the amenities are great. It's super close to campus and super quiet. It is pricey, but worth it if you don't want to worry about noise or maintenance requests. All of mine have been handled within a couple hours.

Not Bad

9 management rating Reviewed by on

The facility seems fairly nice and it's walking distance to Emory. The thing that really sucks is that there are no sidewalks on the main road, so it's not that safe to the grocery store down the street. There's also no real night life in the area (even if it weren't COVID). There are many hidden fees that they don't tell you about in the quoted rent price such as $40 for W/D, $5 mandatory insurance, $3 pest control, $15 pet rent, all of which are added to the monthly rent. Also, they will charge you an arm a leg, and your first born child just to apply ($450 not deducted from the rent) and move in ($400 non-refundable pet fee). Don't get me wrong, the facility is nice and the staff are great. But the owners know they have Emory students bent over a barrel and take advantage of it.

Great place for Emory students

9 management rating Reviewed by on

The apartments are roomy and comfortable. Not super new, but nice and well maintained. Location is great as it is near the Emory campus. Management is very responsive to any concerns, and are very approachable, friendly, and eager to help. Parking is expansive, and there is a controlled-access gate. There is also a pool and a gym. The only issue I've encountered is that they have not issued a mask mandate at the gym on the complex, only a recommendation, so people will workout in the gym without wearing masks. There's also no sidewalks out of the complex, so you need to be careful when walking out.

You get what you pay for

5 management rating Reviewed by on

This apartment complex is easily the closest to to Emory’s campus. This has significant pros and cons. For starters, you don’t have to pay to park. It is an easy bike or walk to campus. on the other hand, this apartment complex is filled with undergraduate students that have just discovered alcohol. I never would have noticed if my windows were thick enough to block out the sounds of the outside world. The apartments are old and worn. The management is making significant renovations to both the apartment and the amenities which include a small but functional gym (two pelotons and lots of weight equipment) and a decent sized pool. If you want to relive the college life, rent here.

Townhouse at Parkside at Mason Mill

9 management rating Reviewed by on

My roommates (also M1s) and I love living in our townhouse. It is beautiful, spacious, and quiet. We each have our own bathroom, the kitchen is huge and all appliances are updated, we have 2 porches, and a half bath for guests on the main floor. Each townhouse in the neighborhood is independently owned, and we rent from our landlord who lives nearby and is responsive to our needs. The neighborhood backs up to Mason Mill park, and has a brand new clubhouse, fitness center, and pool.

Resident Review

4 management rating Reviewed by on

The apartment is really spacious and has updated appliances. My biggest complaint is the management company's reaction to neighborhood disturbances, including a naked man on people's porches and the leasing office did nothing more than contact the police once. Luckily, I haven't been the one to experience this issue, but the response I received from the leasing office was unsettling. The other main issue I have is the leasing office doesn't notify residents when a package has been delivered to the leasing office, so you must monitor delivery updates to know whether to retrieve a package from the office. This is mainly frustrating when someone else has mailed you a package, and you don't have the tracking information and are unable to easily track its delivery date.
