Management pretty good, residents not

7 management rating Reviewed by on

There was a huge delay, moving in due to renovations, which was very annoying. The management was pretty good about it. They gave me a place to stay and a month off of rent. The resident, however, being undergrads, steal my packages all the time. Its very frustrating because management doesn't/can't do anything about it. Otherwise, the commute is great and I love my apartment.

Terrible management, high rent, unsafe

1 management rating Reviewed by on

I had an awful experience living here. The management company does not take complaints seriously, and does not respond to tenants. The rent is crazy high for these conditions. The hallway is full of bugs, dust, and trash; the vents have not been cleaned; the doors are broken; the laundry room is unusably dirty; and the maintenance workers can only provide temporary fixes for major issues. During winters, the cold seeps in through cracks in the walls and gaping window frames.

Big duplex apartment close to Ross. A little bit old, but livable

Pretty good, but might not be around for long

The unit is bi-level with one bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is pretty small, but has a stove/oven, sink, and a decent amount of counter space. The rest of the first floor is wide open. I use it as a living room with two couches and a tv. There's also a closet by the front door. At the top of the stairs is another closet and a reading nook that is actually a pretty nice work space. The bedroom's only window is large and opens to a fire-escape.

731 Packard currently only has 8 1b1ba units, and I believe the company might be tearing them down to turn them into 2 4 bed apartments. I know they'll be around until at least May 2020.

Would not recommend Oxford, but unfortunately they own so much of Ann Arbor

I live in a basement apartment and I pay over $1000/month. The rent has gone up about $50 per month since I moved in about 2.5 years ago, with out improving anything in the apartment. Parking is outrageously expensive, $900/year. Although the doors to the building are "locked," packages are constantly being stolen. The property managers genuinely don't seem to care about the residents. I've had problems since moving in, but it is so close/convenient to the law school. There are 2 washers and 2 dryers in the basement that are always broken, so I have resorted to going to a laundromat since my second year living there. Location is ok, it's right by a bunch of frat houses and can get very loud/crazy during football season.

Good one bedroom apartment

I enjoyed living here. Far enough from the law school to escape the stress but close enough to walk - about 15 minutes, .75 miles. You can cut down the walk significantly in the winter by taking the Commuter North bus. Spacious and well-apportioned apartment. Nice screened-in porch. Quiet building. Utilities are very cheap. The building is warm enough such that I never turned on the heat. In fact, even in the winter, I often left the door to the patio and my bedroom window open to keep the apartment at 70 degrees. Average DTE bill was $25 per month. $1050 total rent included a covered parking spot. Good apartment for one person or for a couple. My unit had a good view of the Big House.

Great one bedroom with walk in closet and attached bathroom, and granite countertops. Not to mention a 2 min walk to Ross!

Good Apartment but "Meh" Building

5 management rating Reviewed by on

I live in a 1 bed, 1 bath apartment near Packard and State. It's about a 3-5 minute walk to Ross and about a 10-15 minute walk downtown, so it's very easy to get places. While it is close to the undergrads/frats, noise isn't an issue.

Overall, the apartment has been good. It's between 700-800 sq feet, which is more than enough space for one person, and given that the rent is less than 1k, it is a good value. The apartment is two levels: the kitchen and main room are on the first level and the bedroom and bathroom are on the second level. Kind of weird, but it works.

There are a mix of grad students/MBAs and undergraduates who live in the building.

The biggest downsides are that the kitchen is very small and the building is old so the exterior hallway has an interesting odor (but that doesn't carry through to my apartment). Oxford isn't the most responsive or organized management company, but the maintenance crew is terrific - super responsive and very friendly.

Hoover Post - Not as bad as it could be...

Bare bones/almost no amenities; you get what you pay for. Good option if you're looking for an affordable place to live, but don't need the nicest accommodations and don't mind walking a fair ways to Ross/downtown. Management sometimes needs to be reminded to follow up on things. No material issues with neighbors (most are pretty quiet). A few issues with pests on the ground floor (was able to resolve by aggressively spraying). Overall, definitely not the Ritz, but an acceptable place to live for two years if you're trying to make living alone affordable.

Convenient location no frills

5 min walk to class, can't beat that. Can be pre furnished or not based on request. Reasonably quiet. Decent in unit features, big kitchen. Downside is only 1 washer dryer for building and bad in unit AC. It's certainly more undergrads here too. Happy to live here and would still recommend despite downsides.

Good location but not so good management

1 management rating Reviewed by on

Apartment is 6 mins away walking distance. There are also few food options available, close to IM building, and a bus stop. However, Oxford company is not-so accomodating and rent will increase every year. Maintenance is very responsive and good but the washer/dryer breaks all the time. Giving it a good rate only because of convenience.

I've been pleased with my apartment so far. I have a dish washer, on site laundry, garbage disposal, air conditioning, and a large kitchen with plenty of counter space. My 9/10 rating is based on Michigan standards, not big city standards. I feel this place is the best value and location for the money! In-unit laundry would make it 10/10.
