Amazing apartment
Really love living at the Rittenhouse Claridge! If you are looking to live in Center City, this is the best building to live in. Relatively affordable rent compared to other nearby properties + all utilities except internet and cable are included in the rent. 30 minutes from the hospital and located right next to two bus lines that will get you to the hospital/school in less than 15 minutes. Lots of amazing restaurants around. Easy to get around from here due to the many public transportation options around. Highly recommend!
Solid
Good apartment, lots of space. Elevators down occasionally. I’d live there again though.
Thin walls
Very thin walls. Can hear the neighbour talking, coughing, watching TV, running water, flushing toilet. Can also hear the upstairs neighbours' footsteps.
Good location, terrible management team
For the price you pay, you can rent in other buildings in a similar location that are better renovated.
Management team is unresponsive and incompetent. Would not recommend, especially for international students
Wouldn't Recommend
Bad elevators, poor maintenance team, carpet flooring, other people have had issues regarding getting security deposits back. Have had issues with bugs as well.
It's Fine
For the most part, this building is great. The elevators are slow and there is always one or two that are not working. Management is responsive, the people at the concierge are very helpful and nice. The location is great, I have never felt unsafe here. My studio is very small, but there's a lot of storage. I think it is worth the price.
Very happy with the building!
Other than the elevator repairs causing long wait times, I'm very happy with the building. Maintenance is fast, the small gym is sufficient for my needs, and the staff is helpful.
Find somewhere else
Old building, no control over heat or AC, mice problem on some floors, expensive, hard to move in/out. Does have a doorman which is nice but most apartments in Philly do. Management only responds when called out and forced. Maintenance team is good though. Under constant construction. I’d look for a different place.
School life balance in the city
I really enjoyed living in the city my second and third year. It gave me another element to my every day life. I truly loved it and would highly recommend the Rittenhouse area for the east access to train lines as well as the highway
Amazing location, beautiful renovated apartment, great experience!
Rittenhouse Claridge is in an amazing location ON Rittenhouse Square. There's a farmer's market outside every Saturday and Sunday and tons of great restaurants and shopping around. Around 30 minute walk to campus or 15 minute bus ride that picks you up right outside and drops you off at JMEC. The building is currently being renovated but most units have already been renovated and it's a beautiful place to live. They're redoing the roof now which should be open in about a year. The study lounge is a great study space if you need a change of pace and the gym is nice too. Overall 10/10 would recommend!
very big pros and very big cons
I love living right in Rittenhouse square. It is incredibly safe compared to other apartment buildings in the area (you walk outside at night and there's restaurants so I'm never scared.) Heat/AC is paid for and the gym is free in the building. You can have some incredible views if you live on the right side of the building. Package room is incredibly reliable/huge plus of the building.
Cons- the building is very dated. None of the buildings in the square are "new" compared so some of the other buildings Penn students live at. Given that, there are some units that when the AC gets turned off in the winter and switched to heat you have no control. We are currently dealing with VERY hot apartments in the building on the upper floors. This is definitely something to bring up when you tour the building.
I have had some issues with my fridge as well but they replaced the fridge immediately and reimbursed me for the food that went bad. Overall, management has been helpful. It is an old building that comes with some struggles but management has been responsive. There are units on the side of the building on Chancelor street that can hear garbage in the morning. So keep in mind the units - what do you want your view (might have to pay more but less noise) and figure out the AC situation in your unit. Some units are more updated than others. Overall I would recomend and I will be here for two years.
Very happy with the building!
We are generally quite happy with the building! The apartment is recently renovated and clean. The front desk and door people are great and super helpful. The gym is nothing special but it does the trick. The second floor lounge is great for studying too.
good
great place and amazing location, renovation happen all the time, the staff is great and responsive, doorman 24-7, very safe. it is expensive but consider it worth it
Rittenhouse Claridge Review
Great place to live, but some minor ongoing issues
Claridge is under-rated
I think this is a great apartment in a great building. Compared to some other popular Wharton spots, Claridge has a bigger gym, more spacious apartments, and lower rent. Not to mention it's literally on Rittenhouse Square and has great Rouge and Parc just downstairs.
