My Experience at Blue Light Living

9 management rating Reviewed by on

As an international student, I found Blue Light living to be one of the best accommodations to live at. The only con is that it is a little far from Fuqua and walkability is an issue.
The management to be amazing and very responsive and all the furniture is well maintained as well.

There’s the good, and there’s the bad

The apartment is nice with the furniture it provides (bed with nightstand, adjustable standing desk, etc.). It is great that you can enter the building/ your apartment with an app on your phone. The RAs, ARCs, and RCs host great events at Bluelight and help you meet others that also live in the building. It is also great that there is a bus stop right next to the building and close to 9th street.

Management at most times is very unresponsive. Maintenance will also enter your room without warning, especially for maintenance that was not put in by the resident (but they are quick with responding to normal maintenance requests). The apartment appliances like the fridge and washing machine was filled with mold during move in. Parking is also $125 per month, which is overall not worth it (as other apartments have free parking or max $50 a month). Some apartments do not have walk-in closets or big bathrooms, it all depends on whether or not you get the handicapped room.

If you are deciding between Blue light vs 300 Swift, I would choose Swift. The apartments aren’t as modern, but the management and price point is better for what you get overall.

Great location, with swift shuttle access, as well as walking distance from 2 banks, fed ex, and 2 grocery stores.
Right by ninth street.
Furnished Apartment, great layout!

Expensive, but clean & includes lots of amenities

Living at Blue Light has been great. The rooms/facilities are very clean & maintenance is done quickly if there are issues. Amenities include gym rooms, pool, hot tub, rooftop deck, water, wifi, & valet trash. Parking is pretty expensive & I wish the pool was bigger.

Good, but poor management

4 management rating Reviewed by on

The space itself is really nice. I didn't know anyone before coming to Duke, so it was good that Blue Light leases by the room. The management, however, leaves plenty to be desired. If you ever have a problem, good luck to you finding someone to fix the issue.

You might have issues with noise if your unit is on the top floor by the clubhouse or if you live below the work out areas.

Pricey but very comfortable / convenient

It is great but on the pricey end. If paying 1500 for half the unit is within the budget, then I recommend it. There are other cheaper options.

Fine experience

It is like a Hotel. The pro is location. Close to east campus. A 15 bike ride to west campus and 2 blocks away from 9th street

The cons: many issues with wifi. Somehow noisy if you live close to the rooftop

Nice, safe place to live at

Its pretty great living here. Its right near ninth st so is super convenient. I've never had issues with security here. You have buses in the day and duke vans in the night so don't worry about transportation. East campus is also just a 10 minute walk away. Amenities are good, utilities are another ~$30 per month. Rent it a little pricey but if you can afford it, please do consider living here.
