Greektown —
9.2/10 Rating
(based on 10 neighborhood reviews)
Greektown is a very small portion of the larger neighborhood "West Loop." Most people still refer to this area as West Loop since Greektown is only 3 blocks along Halsted St. (between Adams and Van Buren). Besides the point, West Loop and Greektown have both been great. Night life and the class of people living in the area is great. Everyone I meet is usually very friendly and it is an enjoyable neighborhood to explore. I have felt fairly safe the entire time living in the area and is known for being one of the safest neighborhoods in the city (its still Chicago though-be aware of your surroundings). The only issue with this neighborhood is that you will have a hard time finding any apartment with rent below $1,400. Besides 768 W. Jackson, expect to pay close to or over $2,000 per month in rent for most apartments....some exceed $3,000 per month. However, with this price point, it is one of the fanciest, safest, and cleanest neighborhoods in the city.

The neighborhood is great, and the people are friendly.
There are a lot of markets nearby, so the grocery shopping is not an issue. There is a private clinic, a dentist, and everything that is needed for an everyday life. Keep reading

Lively neighborhood. Great food. Lot of foot traffic, so I feel safe walking around at later hours because there are others out and about.

Just steps from the trendy West Loop neighborhood without all the hassle that comes with living in a high traffic area! Greektown feels like a small community amongst the vast urban backdrop of downtown Chicago with plenty of local shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and bars within walking distance!

Great neighborhood near all the Greektown restaurants. Convenient for public transit. Easy commute to the loop. Absolutely on the pricey side!

Greektown is a great middle ground between Rush and The Loop. I can get to campus in 15 minutes but can also easily go on a run along the lakeshore. There are two big grocery stores and lots of good restaurants.

West loop, best loop. How many times do you actually want to go to the bean? Why do you want to experience dorm living again? Wouldn’t you rather live where everyone enjoys having fun??
