Northeast Evanston
Suburban Setting & Popular for Kellogg MBA Students
Quieter than downtown with a suburban feel and calmer setting, yet still close to campus for Kellogg students. Northeast Evanston offers convenient access to transit for students who still want access to downtown Evanston. Aside from downtown, this is the most popular spot for Kellogg MBA students and for good reason - it's safe and has solid restaurants & bars.
Renters rave about this neighborhood for the value you get compared to other parts of Evanston and greater Chicago. While it might not be the most lively place, it's great for those who want a nice place and a quiet setting.

Northeast Evanston —
8/10 Rating
(based on 64 neighborhood reviews)
Mostly international-based, family and student friendly neighborhood. People are kind and caring. Commonly 1-storey houses with large gardens, lots of trees and small animals. Also quiet and peaceful. Since there are a lot of students, the neighborhood is ever-changing. There are lots of movers in and out through the summer season. They tend to sell their unwanted items and furniture from social media and garage/yard sales and/or leave slightly worn to broken ones near dumpsters.

The neighborhood is quiet, even during the holiday season, and football games. The area has lots of trees and flowers during spring and summer. On Halloween and Christmas, many houses decorate their porches and sidewalks.

There is a park right in front of the apartment. The intercampus bus stop is 3 min walk, and the divvy bike station is 4 min walk. The Foster stop for the L train is 6 min walk.

Location couldn't be better. Best combination of accessibility to downtown while being a solid 10 minutes closer to the hub than most other places. An extra 20 minutes a day during those Chicago winters means a lot. You're 1 minute away from the Foster Street train stop but you'd have to make an effort to try to hear it when you're in your apartment. Our dog is scared of loud sounds and she hasn't been bothered at all.
They may bucket this as "Northeast" Evanston but if it is it's right on the line. The line is also moving North (as the hub pulls it that way). The surrounding area is nicer as well as it feels a bit more suburban than downtown does (and the houses in the surrounding streets are insanely nice), but again, you are 5-10 minutes from downtown. "Best of both worlds" sounds cliche but it's a perfect description of this place. Keep reading

Neighborhood is safe -- lots of other Kellogg students nearby. Occasional emails from Northwestern warning of criminal activity in the area, but I have not witnessed anything that makes me feel unsafe.
Neighborhood is also quiet as its a decent walk from the bars and other nightlife. Keep reading

The neighborhood is perfect. For Kellogg students, it's close to the Jake, relatively close to the new building, and close to all the other Evanston apartments to never be a problem meeting up with people. It's right next to the Foster St L line and a couple blocks from the Metra.

Sherman and Noyes is a great little pocket of Evanston with lots of shops and restaurant options, a specialty grocer and easy access to the train. There are a lot of undergrads in the area but the noise hasn't been a problem at all. Great for couples, families and pets.

If you're looking for a neighborhood feel, living in NE Evanston is perfect. You're just a 10-minute walk from downtown Evanston, but it's a bit quieter -- and housing prices are way more reasonable than being in a high-rise.

Pretty much everyone in Kellogg lives near-ish to downtown Evanston and I'd say it's definitely helpful so that you can easily meet up with others or get to and from social events. Evanston is pretty cute too!

I think technically this is considered Northeast Evanston, but you'd never know it. It does feel a bit more suburban than downtown does, but you are just so close to downtown that it feels weird calling it something else. It has all the benefits of being in downtown while being a bit more peaceful.

Walkability to the Foster CTA, E2, and the Davis Street Metra is a definite plus. Subway across the street is good for being on the run, although wish there was a coffee shop a touch closer. Would definitely recommend a bike for trips to / from the new Kellogg building.

Walking distance to downtown Evanston, the metra and the L. I really like the location though it is about 10 min walk to anything rather than being right downtown like some other places.
