The Town
On the east side of the San Francisco Bay is the city of Oakland. It is believed that for thousands of years there has been some form of civilization in the area of what we know as Oakland today. However, the city of Oakland was established as such in 1852, around the time of the Industrial Revolution. At this time, it was simply called The Town, which is the city’s nickname to this day. Anthony Chabot Regional Park is a popular park that is enormous in size. Covering 3,314 acres of land, this park offers campgrounds, hiking/walking trails, and beautiful natural scenery. The city of Oakland is a popular place to live for students that attend the University of California, Berkeley. The university is about a twenty-minute drive away, so the students who live here typically own a car or take public transportation.
Oakland is a city that is chock full of eateries that the locals love to hang out and socialize at with friends. Popular spots that are good for bar-hopping include Halftime Sports Bar, The Layover, 19th Street Station, Lost & Found Beer Garden, and Somar Bar and Lounge. Restaurants with high ratings online include Aburaya, Molcajete, Bay Fung Tong | Tea House Restaurant, Roam Artisan Burgers, and Hopscotch. Oakland is the place to live when looking for the busy city-lifestyle and a fast-paced environment.

The Uptown
It can be hard to find street parking. The building has parking but there hasn't been availability since I moved in. The neighborhood is very residential and pleasant, close to lots of amenities. There are classmates who live nearby, but it is definitely not in the epicenter of the Haas social scene.

It's definitely a very "hip" neighborhood, with lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. I would probably prefer a neighborhood that had more walking access to grocery stores over one with lots of bars and restaurants though. Immediately around the building is very residential and family-oriented though, which is nice.

Love being close to the water and seeing so many people with dogs. Great restaurants nearby. Close to SF ferry, BART and 880. Relatively quiet except for AMTRAK train noise.
