Ballard
Welcoming Neighborhood
Ballard is known as a hip and trendy neighborhood that sits alongside the Shilshole Bay. The town is famous for its neighborhood pride - “Free Ballard!” bumper stickers are easily spotted. The “Free Ballard” quote stems from the decision back in 1907 for Ballard to be annexed by the city of Seattle in order to supply water and other supplies. Even though this happened a long time ago, the decision is still alive in the minds of its residents. Today, Ballard abounds with activity - and its residents are never bored. Dotted on the streets are craft breweries, chic bars, and indie stores. Golden Gardens Park is the town’s main attraction as it offers walking trails, dog parks, and gorgeous mountain views not found anywhere else. Just outside of town is the Woodland Park Zoo, an immensely popular zoo that features over 300 different species. The zoo also holds summer concerts from time to time.
Filled with an array of trendy eateries, good food is easy to find. Bars in the area include Olaf’s, Hazlewood, The Noble Fir, and Bar House. Restaurants include Gorditos, FlintCreek Cattle Co, Gorgeous George's, and Yanni's Greek Cuisine. Ballard is a perfect spot for students, young adults, families, and the elderly thanks to its welcoming environment and lively setting.

Ballard —
9/10 Rating
(based on 5 neighborhood reviews)
A beautiful and fun part of Seattle, Ballard is its own little world. A reasonable bus ride to campus (~30 mins during rush hour), there are a wide variety of restaurants, parks, and most importantly breweries in the area. Central Ballard is becoming increasingly dense but much of the area still feels like a quiet neighborhood.

Very self-contained, it clearly has its own identity and is far enough away from the UW that you don't feel like an undergrad living here. Good restaurants, but a little expensive.

Ballard is a rapidly growing neighborhood (designated one of only a few 'Urban Hub Villages) with tons of shops, restaurants, bars, bakeries, coffee shops and more! There are several grocery stores as well and it serves our one-car family well.
