West Salem
Pleasant Neighborhood, Great Location
West Salem is a historic neighborhood, the second oldest in town, established all the way back in 1766. It was an important part of the initial planning of the city, settled as farmland to serve Old Salem. Eventually, it became part of the suburban expansion as industrialization became pervasive in the area in the early 1900s. The locals proudly host an annual event called The West Salem Cottage Garden Tour to celebrate the town’s history and community. The Historic Granville Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors - perfect for taking a scenic stroll, or playing tennis, or taking the kids to the playground. There is also a community garden. Another park lies at the center of West Salem - Washington Park. Many residents love its dog-friendly walking trails. The neighborhood is perfect for university students looking for an easy commute to class since it is right next to Winston-Salem State University, Forsyth Technical Community College, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
West Salem offers numerous dining and nightlife options. Restaurants include Di Lisio’s Italian Restaurant, Slappy’s Chicken, Mozelle’s Fresh Southern Bistro, and Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse. Bars in the area include The Quiet Pint Tavern, Gatsby’s Pub, Vintage sofa bar, and Monstercade. With a fantastic location and many amenities, West Salem makes a great home for families and students alike.
