Old Fourth Ward
Farmers' Markets and Walk-Able Streets
Old Fourth Ward was one of the first residential areas in Ann Arbor. While keeping its old-town feel, the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood is now also a modern spot that many students call home. For bars, there is the Italian styled Mani Osteria and Bar. Another place to visit is Bar Louie, an upbeat bar serving classic American grub. In addition, The Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood is home to Kerrytown, a lively marketplace blending the best of history and today. It gets its name from County Kerry, Ireland – the ancestral home of the developer of the area, and hosts the Ann Arbor Farmers’ Market every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer and fall seasons.
Old Fourth Ward is near downtown without all the noise. Coupling this with the quaint farmers markets and walk-ability of the area, it's easy to see why this is a popular neighborhood.

I love the neighborhood! We live less than two blocks from the farmer's market, Sparrow Market, and Ann Arbor Co Op, which all make it really easy for quick errands. I live a 15-minute walk from campus and pretty much any bar/restaurant I want to go to in Ann Arbor. I love that Kerrytown has its own identity but is also so close to every other downtown neighborhood and campus.

I love living here. There are small grocery shops/coops for immediate food needs and a very quick drive to bigger grocery stores like Kroger. Farmer's market on Saturdays is so wonderful and the community in Kerrytown is great. Lots of other medical students around and more options for houses (vs. high rise apartment buildings). Still really easy to walk to the hospital and medical school.

I lived in this area during undergrad and returned as quickly as I could as a grad student. The walk to campus is easy, even through the winter snow. The houses are beautiful, and we are within 5 blocks of 2 grocery stores (Kerrytown Market and the co-op), the farmer's market, and numerous restaurants. We are also right near the river running trail.

It is less than 10min walk from Ross campus and less than 5min walk from everything else. Walking distance to the central bus station (Blake Bus Interchange) and downtown area. You can take a bus from the bus stop outside the lobby to go to Meijer or Target.

Living in Kerrytown as a medical student is fantastic. It is in walking distance (10-15 minutes) of smaller grocery stores, the hospital, Zingerman's, and some great bars.
Great area that I highly recommend. Keep reading

My partner and I love it. A lot of grad students live in our neighborhood but not a lot of MBAs. Brick-lined streets with historic houses. Great place if you want a quieter escape from campus.

It's Liberty, for what it's worth. Necto and Skeeps can be pretty loud on weekends, so sometimes need an earplug to sleep. Sunlight is bad. Easy to get to bars/restaurants and to the school.

I love this area. It's also called Kerrytown - Old 4th Ward is just more specific to my block I guess? It's a quiet residential area. I live right across from city hall and down the street from the fire department so I feel very safe. I've never heard a party! It's just a short walk from the Kerrytown market and some great restaurants by it. Also a quick walk from downtown where all the good nightlife is in my opinion as well as state street where there is a CVS and Walgreens. I'm also 2 blocks from a 7-11.

Absolutely love Kerrytown!! Still close to the hospital but you get the added benefit over White Coat of being close to cute kerrytown shops and farmer's market as well as having a shorter walk to general downtown Ann Arbor. I definitely will be staying in Kerrytown all 4 years of medical school!

Downtown is great for restaurants and shops! Better than some of the areas where mostly students live, in my opinion. There are a lot of homeless people who frequently try to interact and are sometimes not very polite. Crazy busy on game days, there will be an hour wait for food.
