Vickery Meadow

Close to City Life
In the northeast section of Dallas lies the neighborhood of Vickery Meadow. In the 1940s, Vickery Meadow was a small town, and in the '60s and '70s, the area was developed with apartment complexes for young professionals. Today Vickery Meadow offers a multitude of affordable housing options for its friendly and ethnically diverse residents, with new retail options constantly springing up.

Vickery Meadow has numerous outdoor recreational grounds. At the heart of Vickery Meadow is Harry S Moss Park. This park has a trail designated for mountain biking for adventure lovers. In town, there is also the Royal Oaks Country Club, Moss Soccer Club, and Northwood Park. Vickery Meadow also has plenty of places to eat, drink, and socialize. Bars in the area include One Nostalgia Tavern, The Bar Park Lane, and Lakewood Growler. Restaurants the residents of Vickery Meadow like to frequent include Resident Taqueria, rise nº1 Salon de Soufflé, Hillstone, and Jason's Deli.

Vickery Meadow — 8.5/10 Rating (based on 102 neighborhood reviews)
Vickery Meadow probably wouldn't have been our first choice because it can feel claustrophobic due to the density of apartments. However, our little corner has almost none of this feel. Holly Glen is tucked in a corner and backed by a forest. We're not comfortable with my wife walking alone apart from the SoPac (and then we try to shoot for times when it's busy). That said, we feel generally safe.

I honestly didn’t recognize this neighborhood name until I looked it up. Outside of the Village, the area doesn’t have much of an identity. Retail options nearby are nice and restaurants are good, but there isn’t much of a social scene. You’ll want to head down to lower Greenville, uptown, oak lawn, or deep ellum for bars and things to do. All of those are a short, cheap uber away so it isn’t a big deal.

While the Village feels like an escape from the city, Greenville ave. is right there, giving easy access to restaurants, grocery stores, and other kinds of shopping. Dallas proper is only about twenty minutes away by car, and DART is also nearby and easy to use. I have a 5-10 minute commute to campus most days, and if I didn't want to drive, the SMU express has several stops in the Village, making it easy to take (free!) public transportation.

I like the neighborhood. It is quiet and pedestrian friendly. It is great if you are a jogger or have a dog! There are sidewalks, a walking/running path, and a dog park across the street and accessible to anyone living in the Village.
I also like that there are three different grocery stores within a two-mile radius and many eateries off Greenville.

The entire Village property is beautiful and feels pretty safe; however, the surrounding areas are somewhat rundown and don't feel safe. I'm definitely glad that my complex is gated but would feel safer with more restricted access to the Village and apartment buildings.

There is hardly anything to complain about the village apartments considering the value that you get for the price you pay for your stay. The management has never been rude or not-helpful to me for all the time I've shown up at their office with problems or service requests, they have their own patrol service going for rounds in the premises which you can call to pick you up if you feel unsafe to go out at night.
It's very serene neighborhood with lots of greenery, well maintained lawns, ponds, swimming pools and regular social events conducted by the management to which they invite all the residents to. It's also very close to many major grocery stores with bus services going there(Tom Thumb, Central market, Krogers and Walmart to name a few). The only drawback being that the apartments are quite "unfurnished" compared to other rental properties in an American scenario. But hey, why complain when you pay almost half the rent(or even lesser) compared to other options out there?
Also all my service requests have been promptly attented to so far whether I made them online or at their office. One thing I really appreciate about them is that they make you free duplicate keys to your apartment if you ever end up losing yours.
It's a couple of miles away from SMU, which is not that far but a bit away from the university, but you have that covered too as the free bus service of SMU runs through the village.
One more tip for international renters, keep enough money to pay one month of rental money as a refundable deposit apart from the rent that you'll have to pay, since they ask for it from renters who do not have a credit history in united states(after running a credit check on your name). Which is fair considering they do not have any other information on us to trust us.

What I liked about this neighborhood is that there are a lot of immigrants living there, so you can meet people from all over the world. What's not so great is, most of the buildings in this neighborhood are very run-down and there are constantly police helicopters flying overhead. There are no parks that you can walk to. But you can walk to Walmart in less than 5 minutes. The best thing about this neighborhood is that there is a giant Half Price Books just a few blocks away.
