M Streets

Slice of Small Town
M Streets is the perfect neighborhood for a younger crowd that craves living in a classic neighborhood while not having to sacrifice a city lifestyle. The peaceful streets, lined with oak and pecan trees, were originally developed in the early 1920s. The plan at the time paid special attention on beautifying the neighborhood with landscaping, which resulted in a delightful locale. M Streets exudes personality and charm. It’s an open and friendly community anyone would find easy to love. With its stately stretch of English Tudor-style homes, M Streets offers wonderful walkability. Parks, grocery stores, great schools, restaurants, and walking trails are all within a 10-minute walk. Nearby, the Central Expressway can be reached by car within minutes. The Arboretum, White Rock Lake, or downtown offices, are just a short drive away. Restaurants in the area include Gloria’s Latin Cuisine, OT Tavern, St. Martin’s, and Blue Goose Cantina. Artsy live music is offered through a theatre boasting a full bar known as Granada Theater.

In the northwest part of the neighborhood stands Glencoe Park, which has recreational grounds for a variety of sports including basketball, soccer, and tennis - perfect for anyone looking to stay fit outdoors. The bar scene near M Streets is also lively, and includes hot spots Atwater Alley and Truck Yard. M-Streets is perfect for you if you are looking for a charming, small-town feel with city amenities close at hand.

There are a ton of shops and restaurants within walking distance which is great, but there are also a lot of homeless people and some wild stuff going on at night. My boyfriend works the night shift at 7/11 and always comes home with the craziest stories. During the day I would say I love the neighborhood.

There is not much around this neighborhood other than the two major grocery stores and a couple of restaurants. The closest thing to landmark is an independent living facility.

If you do not have a car like me, you are somewhat dependent on the public transportation schedule to get most places. Though not really a thing right now due to the pandemic, if you want to have an active nightlife, or be closer to places where events happen, this neighborhood might not be the place for you.

The area is becoming gentrified, so some areas feel unsafe while others feel very walkable. There is an upcoming bar scene along Ross. I love that I am close to everything -- Fair Park, Deep Ellum, Downtown, Uptown, White Rock Lake, SMU, etc. I am close to Kroger, Target, Sprouts and Whole Foods. There are TONS of restaurant and nightlife options. I would not recommend using scooters in the streets and to be wary riding a bike. There are few bike lanes and sidewalks end randomly. There are many gyms, libraries and things to do nearby including a few parks and simple trails.

The vast majority of the tenants are working professionals. I've never seen kids in the complex, and being in my mid-twenties I feel on the young side of the tenants. I've never had unpleasant interactions with the other tenants, everyone keeps to themselves. The complex is close to Skillman and Lovers, so there is plenty of street noise, sirens, etc. but it hasn't been a big bother. It does feel tucked away and not like we're living right on top of a busy street.

Shady characters have been spotted on the property peeking in the gymnasium windows. But overall, safe comparable to anything further south.
