Hunters Point
A Favorite Among Professionals
Hunters Point in Long Island City is only a subway stop from Midtown. This up-and-coming neighborhood is booming with young professionals and families looking for more peace and quiet. Some say Gantry Plaza State Park, a simple and clean green space, has one of the best views of the Manhattan skyline. Also located here is the popular P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, part of the Museum of Modern Art and set in a historic school building.
The influx of residents has brought lots of new restaurants, bars, and mom-and-pop shops to Vernon Boulevard, Hunters Point's main street. This more affordable neighborhood also contains the beautiful Hunters Point Historic District, a national historic district of red-brick brownstones from the late 19th century.

Pros: beautiful waterfront, very safe neighborhood, very quiet - you feel like you're completely out of the city, almost like a little getaway on the weekends if you work in the city; lots of high quality bars and restaurants, excellent public transport access, a variety of supermarkets, all is very new.
Cons: there aren't really many cons - except you're not directly in Manhattan :) Keep reading

Very safe and clean, many luxury buildings with young professionals and young families. Great views of Manhattan. Very residential - not many fast casual spots or stores, but there are good restaurants.

Interesting neighborhood - lots of new construction and new bars and restaurants spring up all the time. Could use more food shopping options and a drug store though.
Transport links are second to none, you can be in Midtown in less than 10 minutes and it's easy to get to just about every part of Manhattan. Keep reading

The building is in an excellent area. Right on the water, easy walk to multiple bars and restaurants. It is also a five minute walk to the 7 subway line.

The neighborhood is quiet and has all the basic amenities::
- Two OK, if pricey, grocery stores) - Restaurants (two or three sushi places, two Indian restaurants, a couple of pizza places, etc.) - Convenience stores - Pharmacies (two large chain pharmacies) - Dry cleaners All of those basic needs are covered, but there is a lack of the variety offered in Manhattan. Fortunately, we're one stop from Grand Central on the 7. The neighborhood is definitely safe, we've got extensive police presence. During most hours of the evening, there are buildings with doormen around & folks walking dogs out, so I would even feel safe running alone late at night. The neighborhood is full of "pre-suburbs" families (little kids, dogs) and has a family & pet friendly vibe. Keep reading

The neighborhood is young and up and coming. With plenty of new real estate going up both commercial and residential! A couple corporate offices in the area so a lot of young working professionals in the area as well. Great restaurant and a super easy commute

Halo LIC
The neighborhood has a very "community" feel vs. Manhattan. More families, space, parks, and better views. Less great restaurants although that's changing and there are some wonderful ones such as Mu Ramen and Case Enrique.
