Callowhill
A Transforming Neighborhood Just North of Center City
What once was only manufacturing buildings, Callowhill is now home to a diverse set of apartment homes, music venues, and restaurants. Old industrial buildings have been converted into cool lofted apartments, many of which maintain their warehouse facades. Callowhill is also the capital of underground entertainment, with Electric Factory and Union Transfer hosting local and visiting artists each week.

I love the Callowhill neighborhood. It's quiet but within walking/public transit distance to some bigger neighborhoods (Fairmount, Center City, Old City). There are a few small bars/restaurants in the area, and 3 grocery stores are in the area. It's also only a mile from the Art Museum/Kelly Drive trail to run/bike.

Neighborhood is great. There are some homeless people around, but I have never been harassed or bothered by them. You are a few blocks north of City Hall and the Center City bar/restaurant/shopping scene.

Reading Terminal Market is a few blocks away which has some of the best food shopping in the city. Chinatown provides some great nightlife for a night out. I hope some more brunch and restaurants open up in the area.

My experience with the neighborhood has been very good. I have not had any trouble walking around late at night. There are a couple of excellent brunch places nearby right on Callowhill Street. Also, right across the street at the Hannover there is a nice grocery store.
You are about a ten minute walk from Chestnut Street, were you can find a shopping mall and ample stores for your convenience. Keep reading

The property values have skyrocketed. But this is a pretty dangerous neighborhood at night. No grocery stores in Callowhill/ Chinatown either. Food desert
