Apartment is in the heart of downtown within walking distance of old city. It is also within walking distance of a good social scene and many restaurant options. There are homeless people who sometimes walk on the surrounding streets but in my experience that is not an issue. All the doors in the building require a key fob to unlock.

So this apartment is in downtown. Downtown areas have their issues, some people are more comfortable with it than others.
Because it is in downtown, there are a number of homeless people that hang out nearby. I can’t think of an occasion that I’ve experienced panhandling outside the apartment, but it frequently happens on walks to and from school. Other than that, you really can’t beat this location. Old city and downtown / market square are a 3 minute walk. These are the social scenes the law students typically visit. The strip down Cumberland is mainly where the undergraduates hang out. I have absolutely loved my experience living downtown. Walkability is very important to me, and having all of the UT campus, downtown, and old city areas within a short walk is fantastic. It is a very safe downtown compared to most cities in the US. I have never felt unsafe at any point or had a bad encounter with anyone. I often will walk home very late and never feel uncomfortable. There are always other people out and about so even if there were someone up to no good, there are many people there as witnesses which decreases the likelihood of anything bad happening.
