Riverside

Growing Community in the Southeast Austin Area
Riverside, also known as East Riverside-Oltorf, is a growing community in the southeast Austin area. Strip malls, small businesses, and loyal natives boasting a no-frills attitude fill the spaces in between the greenery and residential areas. Residents can enjoy a scenic view of Lady Bird Lake and the city beyond while taking a walk along The Boardwalk. Riverside is just beginning to experience a boom in developments, with many more housing options and businesses moving into the area. The neighborhood is home to many artists and musicians whose influences color the community in classic Austin fashion. Visit hotspots like Buzzmill coffee, The Bazaar or Emo’s, the prominent nightclub which recently relocated to the Riverside area.

Renters here love the sense of community and the reasonable prices. This neighborhood is filled with natives of all kinds, including working professionals and families. With easy access to the University of Texas via bus, this town is also a very affordable option for students.

Riverside — 8.2/10 Rating (based on 20 neighborhood reviews)
Riverside is a neighborhood in the middle of gentrification. A number of new apartments are continuously being built as it is a more affordable location that is only a few steps removed from the city center.

Riverside drive especially the east part is relatively a new growing neighborhood. Grocery shops like Walgreens, CVS and HEB are nearby. It is also a relatively safe area and calm. It is close to UT campus with a 10 min drive only in normal traffic.

Moreover it is surrounded with the beautiful access to the river and lady bird lake.
Night life is a bit not much available and most of the action is in downtown of Austin which is very close.

Riverside is relatively a quiet neighborhood that gets a bit busy especially on rush traffic hours. Several shops there and restaurants available. The location is very close to downtown Austin and close to University of Texas at Austin. Living here is relatively cheaper than west campus or north of the campus. Some people might find it not so safe though.

I heard Riverside had a less than perfect reputation before I moved here. I would say that the closer you are to the river the better you should be as it has also become a very desirable location. Riverside, as a neighborhood, is split by Riverside Drive, so try to find a place in the zone closest to the river. Also, prices are usually lower than in other areas closer to campus.

I really like how accessible it is to the other neighborhoods, given its location on the trail, but it is very new and they are putting up a bunch of new apartment buildings and the dining/bar scene hasn't quite filled out yet.

The path by the river is great if you like to cycle or run. I love running down to auditorium shores, using the outdoor gym and then running back. it's a perfect workout.

The neighborhood is relatively quiet and is full of fast food restaurants and coffee shops. Grocery stores are also available and all at a walking distance. I like the most that there is direct access to Lady Bird Lake so you can enjoy walking with your dog in the morning or the evening after a long day of work. It is close to downtown Austin.
The safety is a bit of issue since you see many homeless people around but the police is taking care of it.

There's lots to do, eat, and drink right in the Riverside neighborhood, and getting to downtown or the East side is so easy if you want to do something different. Lots of great local spots to eat (mostly counter-service style), ranging from sports bars to Tex Mex to Vietnamese food. There's plenty of standard chain restaurants as well (again mostly counter service places). Being close to the Town Lake trail is prime. Some areas don't feel very safe at night, but most of the streets are well-lit. Police often patrol the area, which could make you feel safer or more concerned. Overall, a great area to live that is constantly improving!

It is close to downtown and to UT campus.

Relatively less safe than downtown because of homeless people around.

Riverside is an accessible and eclectic community. It is directly on the river, which is possibly the best part of the apartment. There is a lot of traffic in this area but that is somewhat understandable.

The neighborhood is relatively calm with moderate traffic. Several fast food chains are there like Wendy's McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell.
Also many grocery stores and gaz stations.
Close to UT and to the lake to enjoy some jogging or morning walk with your dog.
However, you see many police cars usually at night there but it feels safe.
