Squirrel Hill

Walkable Neighborhood Sandwiched Between Two Beautiful Parks
Squirrel Hill is a safe and commuter-friendly neighborhood that offers easy access to Murray Ave where you can find buses to any college campus in Pittsburgh. It's a very walkable area that offers fantastic spots to dine at places like Mineo's, Naya, and Chengdu Gourmet. There's also two beautiful parks, Frick and Schenley, which have great bike trails that can take you to other parts of the city and give you alternative options to driving or catching the bus.

The area is a tad more expensive than other neighborhoods in Pittsburgh but it certainly won't empty your pockets. It's quieter than what you would find in downtown Pittsburgh and the folks here like it that way.

Squirrel Hill — 8.6/10 Rating (based on 7 neighborhood reviews)
Squirrel Hill is much more of a family neighborhood than the more north areas such as Shadyside or East Liberty. The community is a majority mix of Jewish families, college students, and international students. While it does not have the social bar scene like some other areas around school, it is very safe and very homey. The diverse makeup of the neighborhood means there are many restaurants from just about every culture you can think of, all of which are delicious. It is also well spread out, so parking is never an issue. The bus system runs heavily through the area so you can get most places in the city from here.
Additionally, the major shopping area called the Waterfront is just south of here, ~5min by car. This area has every major shopping need you could have including an outdoor mall, a Costco, Lowe's, Giant Eagle, a gym, and more.

I love the nearby shops, restaurants, and parks. The Chatham campus is also lovely to walk around. It's very quiet, and has easy access to 2 bus lines that go down to school in Oakland. Parking is easy on the street where we are.

The neighborhood is quiet and safe. It is located very close to campus without the city feel. Convenient to the park, campus, and multiple buses. It is also near the 376 highway, which makes traveling or commuting outside the city very easy.

Overall, safety was not an issue. There are grocery stores, coffee shops, and a library nearby. However, buses are very busy and there is a lot of traffic on the streets because there are three nearby universities and several public schools.
