Columbia Plaza reviews and highlights
- safe and clean neighborhood
- parking is a little pricey
- huge windows which let in lots of natural sunlight
- utilities and electricity included in the rent
- spacious layout with plenty of room for entertaining
- convenient location close to the metro
Not the best, not the worse.
Ok priced rent for DC. Apartment is fairly large. No complaints on space in room, bathroom, or common area. Looks somewhat run down on outside, always something wrong with the elevators, no laundry in unit, and fidgety AC/Heat. Also, no pets allowed. Not much to do in the area in terms of dining, entertainment, or nightlife. Usually have to travel to somewhere else.
I personally do not recommend, but near silver line so easy commute.

Good value
This was a very good deal. They allow quite a lot of people in the apartment and it is quite spacious, which I needed. Management is sometimes frustrating, but not a huge issue. I would recommend if you are looking for cheap accommodation. Some units have roach problems, I heard.

Spacious and convenient
Very spacious and very close to campus! Front desk responds quickly to any issues, garbage chute is super convenient. It’s often loud at night if you face the plaza because everything echoes but there is a market in the plaza that carries snacks, essentials, and liquor.

Colombia plaza
I’ve lived here for about three years. It’s an older building so there are problems with things like dust and mold. We have had one incident with a mouse and one with some bugs but maintenance was very good about taking care of both of those issues and we haven’t had problems since. I will say, this apartment is bigger than most of the parents priced similarly. I have friends who live in the same area and are paying more than I pay (I pay half the rent displayed) for a shoebox studio. The gym is not huge but it’s sufficient. Maintenance comes same day or next day generally if you call. All packages go to the desk so there’s no worries about them being stolen. Laudry is unfortunately in the basement not the unit. You also only get heat in the winter and air in the summer which can be a struggle if you have warmer or colder days before you switch over. However with any apartment you’re going to have problems and I obviously haven’t felt the need to move yet so I’d recommend this apartment complex. There are five different buildings, check out the floor plans in every building because they do differ.

Pro and Cons
- accommodating and friendly management
- Location is perfect / 5-10 Min to Law school and to Metro
- middle prize range for the location but very expensive compared with rent international students pay in their respective countries (Rent is 3 times higher than Cologne)
- Gym In-house
- You have to choose the building and unit you rent very carefully. Some buildings are not recently renovated. Management will show you around if you ask. I am in Building C and can recommend it
- Be carful not to have a Apartment next to the lift and make sure you get a nice few
- washer and dryer in the cellar
- internet not included
- very spacious floorpan
- hardwood floors
- Lots of storage
- check if everything is working right away. These are old buildings. The heating was not working right in my apartment. They came and fixed it within a week.
Do not know if cooling/air-condition is working yet.

Decent apartment, really expensive
The building isn't bad. Not great, but not bad. The apartment itself is pretty nice. I got one that was just renovated so I'm not sure what the others are like, but all the fixtures in the bathroom were new. Most of the appliances were new or like new. The apartment is pretty spacious, but the view over the plaza is ugly and mildly depressing.
Maintenance is 50/50. Sometimes nobody ever responds when you put in a maintenance request. Sometimes they respond within minutes. When they do come they're usually pretty nice. I've never had any problems with mice or bugs or anything like that.
Regarding amenities, the gym is pretty nice. The text and email notifications when you get a package are nice.
The biggest issue with this place is the price. I know DC is an expensive city, but the price for these apartments still feels too high.
Oh, and this place feels really safe, which is nice.

I’m home within 5 minutes of signout (unless I’m working at the VA, which is a 20 min drive). I park my car in GW’s heated garage (major key in winter). The unit is also huge and includes a large balcony. It even has a convenience store with a surprisingly large selection designed for the apartment residents. Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are also walking distance. Our neighbors are grad students and retirees, so it’s pretty quiet even during the day (important when working nights). Foggy Bottom is boring but the metro stop is at the hospital and cabs are everywhere. I’d rather commute to fun things once a week or so than commute to work every day. We would also love a washer/dryer in unit but from what we’ve seen, that’s hard to find at this price (laundry facilities are in the basement - and one bonus of 6 machines is we do it all in one cycle!). My husband and I have no plans to move unless a better deal pops up in a cooler neighborhood, and so far we’ve seen nothing at an equivalent price that includes parking (street parking is too unreliable). Very likely we’ll be renewing our lease in a few months.

Columbia Plaza Review
I think this is a great apartment to live in as a first-year law student because it's close to campus, it's in a good location, it's safe, and it's spacious. My only complaint is that I think it's on the fairly expensive side. There is a gym in the building though it's not that luxurious or large.
