Worth the Price for 1Ls
Great for in-person classes, right across from SLU LAW.

Nice Property, Preference-Dependent Location, Management Not Great
The Park Pacific facility itself is a nice facility. It's in a great walkable location across the street from the SLU law school. There is a gym, parking garage, and the units are updated.
As a law student, the location was convenient, but I also felt claustrophobic at times as I was almost always downtown in one location. Going outside at night sometimes can feel a bit unsafe. In addition, the office staff is not very understanding or accommodating when issues arise. For example, they were not flexible with renters during the Covid Pandemic situation, with many people stuck in leases they no longer needed. While I understand the financial difficulties for all parties, the staff members could have expressed and practiced much more compassion.
Overall, Park Pacific could be a great option for a first-year student, but due to some of the unhelpful staff members and "concrete jungle" environment, I will be moving west of the city to find some fresh air and kinder landlords!

It didn't make too much difference for me to live next to school during covid but I liked the spacious studio and the scott hall/ courthouse view. Downtown is not the safest but the security in park pacific makes me feel safe. Good doorman.

UNSAFE
Although this is the closest apartment to SLU Law, it is by far the most unsafe. I personally experienced a break-in while I was home, and management placed the blame on me. This was not an isolated incident. Break-ins continue to happen, averaging one or two per month, and management continues to blame residents. Management also does not inform building residents when break-ins occur, further posing safety risks. They tout safety when you tour the apartment, even claiming that two "on-call" police officers live in the building. This is blatantly false information. There is no security personnel whatsoever. The security cameras are not monitored, and neither are the entries and exits to the building. When a pipe burst in the winter, it left 30-40 apartments displaced and without internet for days. maintenance was unresponsive and management again placed blame on residents, despite the pipe being reported for months leading up to the burst. The fire alarm goes off about once a week, day or night, and management refuses to address the issue. washer and dryers leave grease marks and ruin clothes, and instead of providing you with a new washer or dryer, maintenance simply gives you a different old one, and you have the same problem in another month. All of the positive reviews about this building online are either old or solicited by management for rent credits. In addition, there are 20-30 units in this building allocated to Airbnb rentals. This creates additional safety concerns, as well as noise and the smell of marijuana at all hours of the day and night. Park Pacific is renting them for as low as $45 per night, so the clientele attracted is not ideal for a safe and studious environment. On top of this, Park Pacific gave residents no information about leasing the units through Airbnb, further disregarding resident safety. For 6 months, all four elevators have never operated. Residents continue to get stuck on elevators and management has never contracted an actual elevator company to come fix the elevators.
I cannot stress enough how unsafe this building truly is. The last thing you want in law school is additional stress, and all this building and management causes is stress and genuine concern for your safety. I highly encourage you to live a couple blocks away from the law school in a safer environment.

Park Pacific
Overall, the apartment is very convenient for attending SLU Law. It is nice to be able to leave my apartment and be in a classroom within about 5 minutes. It is also nice living in a building with so many other law students, as it is nice to be able to hang out, pregame events, etc.
However, Park Pacific has many of the problems of all city apartments. The main thing is that you have to deal with seeing a whole lot of homeless people around the building, and the occassional car gets broken into.
With that being said, I think I am happy I chose this building. The convenience to SLU and the social aspect makes up for some of the shortfalls.

Park Pacific
Overall, my experience has been relatively positive. I rarely have noise issues. The maintenance people are always on top of everything and are incredibly friendly. The other tenants are friendly. It is nice having a lot of SLU Law students in the building. The proximity to the law school is the best perk. As for the management, I do not have a positive thing to say. From the beginning, they have been unfriendly. They are difficult to get ahold of and are incredibly unhelpful. There have been occasions where homeless people have made their way into the building and management did not inform the residents that they were squatting in empty apartments. I know numerous people who have had cars broken into them, and management said the security footage could not been seen and there was nothing they could do. We also just recently found out the building is now being rented through Airbnb. Though that is pretty normal for apartment buildings, management companies normally inform the tenants. I personally have not had to deal with my car being broken into or squatters trying to enter my apartment, so ,aside from the management’s lack of professionalism, it has been a relatively positive experience.

Pros and cons... but mostly pros
Park Pacific has the best location, if you are looking to be close to the law school. The building is literally across the street. So, it is very convenient for those who like to go home for lunch or to take a break between classes. Also, if you are not from St. Louis and don't want to worry about driving everyday or hate traveling in bad weather.
At first I thought the price of Park Pacific was ridiculous (especially for STL) but the security and residents are top notch and I always feel safe. Plus there is a doorman and maintenance staff, that have always been helpful and efficient, in my experience.

Overall great!
There are some quirks that don’t appeal to my style and there are times when you can hear your neighbors or people in the hall pretty clearly, but overall it is a really good place to live while attending SLU Law! You can’t beat the convenience of living right next to the law school, especially when the weather is bad!

Downtown West Reviews
The streets in Downtown generally are somewhat clean. There are also many restaurants & coffee shops in downtown, and it is very walkable/bike-able during the daytime hours.
Safety: St. Louis' reputation for being unsafe precedes it, and is a bit exaggerated. But not entirely off-base, from my personal experience. From about sunrise to sunset, speaking as a man, I am comfortable walking outside. Foot traffic is generally very light and most streets have sufficient sidewalk space. Not to fearmonger, but I have personally erred on the side of caution when it comes to going out at night. I do go out to Bar Reviews and friends' house parties once a month or so. I tend to get home anywhere from midnight to 2am. I have never seen any violence, or concerning behavior, with my own eyes. Anecdotally, I have heard from another friend in Downtown that they have seen people cruising around in a car with guns on one occasion, very early in the morning/late at night. Gunshots are not rare, but also not frequent. My personal estimate is that I hear what could plausibly be gunshots once every two weeks or so. They occur most often in the midnight to 4am block of time. Car-break-ins were the second-most raised point about safety in Downtown. I have not been the victim of a break-in myself. However, I have seen cars parked in the same spot on the street all day go from having an intact window in the morning to a busted window by the end of the school day. I strongly recommend securing garage parking if you have a car, either in your own apartment complex or a nearby external garage. Downtown St. Louis has a homelessness problem, unfortunately similar to most other major cities in the US (Austin, TX and Los Angeles, CA come to mind). The homeless & city have a tragic cycle of homeless people occupying the parks near the law school & city hall, then being cleared out by city officials when a major event is being held at or near the parks, and drifting back in, days or weeks after the event. I have seen homeless people sleeping along the St. Charles St. side of the building, and further up the street. I have never been personally accosted by anyone, but it can contribute to feelings of overall decreased safety.
